If you’ve ever wished AI could do more than answer questions, you’re going to like this. Claude Skills, from Anthropic, lets you build reusable workflows without writing code, using plain language. I watched Claire Vo’s walkthrough and tried a few things myself, and it actually changed how I think about automation.

What it is, simply: a Skill is a packaged set of instructions, metadata, and optional files that Claude can run again and again. Think of it like a reusable recipe, not a rigid machine. That difference matters, because you describe the steps in natural language, and Claude adapts, instead of forcing you into brittle rules.

Quick background: Claude Skills sit alongside Claude Projects and custom GPTs, but they’re specifically meant for repeatable tasks. Claire shows two ways to create them: the built-in Skill editor, and a faster path using Cursor. She also demonstrates testing with Claude Code and adding Python validation scripts when you want extra checks.

Real use cases: I tried converting changelogs into a newsletter draft, and the Skill handled tone and bullet conversion nicely. Another neat example is turning demo notes into follow-up emails and PRDs, automatically. No coding, just tweaking the instructions until it behaves the way you want.
