CoPaw: Your Personal AI Assistant, On Your Terms
If you’ve ever wished your AI assistant could live on your machine, under your control, and still connect to all the places you actually chat, you’re going to like this.
CoPaw on GitHub is an open source project from the AgentScope team that aims to be your personal AI assistant, easy to install, flexible to deploy, and designed to grow with you. You can run it locally on your own computer, spin it up in the cloud, or even deploy it with Docker. And yes, it works across multiple chat platforms like DingTalk, Feishu, QQ, Discord, iMessage and more. One assistant, many channels.
What really stands out is control. Your memory, your configurations, your data. If you prefer local models such as llama.cpp or MLX, you don’t even need an API key. Everything can run directly on your machine. If you’d rather use a cloud model like DashScope or ModelScope, you simply add your API key in the console and you’re set. It’s flexible in a very practical way.
Installation is surprisingly approachable. There’s a no Python required installer, Docker images on Docker Hub, and even one click deployments for Alibaba Cloud. After setup, you open http://127.0.0.1:8088/ in your browser and manage everything from a clean console interface. Memory, skills, environment variables, it’s all there.
And then there are skills. Built in cron jobs, custom skills that auto load from your workspace, extensibility without lock in. It feels less like a single tool and more like a small workstation for your digital life.
The project is actively evolving, with v0.0.4 just released, and the team is building in the open. They’re inviting contributors, which tells you something about the direction. This isn’t a closed box. It’s a growing ecosystem.
If you’ve been thinking about running your own AI assistant, one that’s truly yours, CoPaw might be the place to start.
